Payment is released only when the job is signed off.

Your payment is held, not paid out. When the work is done, the person who paid gives the worker a one-time completion code, and entering it releases the payment. If the code isn't given, nothing pays out automatically, and either of you can ask Questies to review it.

Example quest · in progress$120 held
Completion code, held by whoever posted it
Code entered · $108 paid to the quester
$120 flat price, less the 10% quest fee. Works like a delivery-confirmation code: the money moves only when the person who paid hands the code over.
Why Questies

A New Zealand start-up built on trust

Questies is a Wellington start-up building a transparent community: every member is checked, every fee is on this page, and money only moves when the job is done.

No paying for leads

Listing your services, quoting and applying are free. You pay a small fee only when you get paid.

Your money is held, not handed over

Payment sits in escrow until the person who paid gives the completion code. A no-show or cancelled booking is refunded in full.

Real, checked people

No anonymous accounts. A person on our team checks every ID, and licensed tradies can show a checked licence badge.

A real person, not a bot

If the completion code isn't given, nothing pays out automatically, and a Questies admin reviews it.

How the completion code works

The person who paid signs off the job

The same completion-code flow is used for every quest and every freelance booking.

1

Funds held in escrow

Payment goes into escrow before work starts: when a quest is posted, or when a freelancer accepts a booking.

2

The payer holds the code

A single-use code goes to whoever can check the work, never to the worker.

3

The code releases payment

When the job is done, the worker asks for the code and enters it. Escrow pays out, minus the Questies fee.

4

No code, no payout

If the code isn't given, nothing pays out automatically. Either side can contact support, and a Questies admin reviews it.

Fees

Trust & safety

Everyone passes the same check

Questers, freelancers, and employers all have their ID checked by a person on the Questies team, and all agree to the same Terms & Conditions before they can transact. How we handle personal information, including our limited use of AI, is set out in our Privacy Policy.

A person checks every ID

Someone on the Questies team checks every application by hand before the account is activated. Every account type, no exceptions.

Proof of address

A recent bill, bank statement or government letter confirms the location on every Quester and Freelancer account.

Location required

Freelance listings must disclose a service area; every account sees relevant nearby work.
